About Alwin March 17, 2008

Alwin A.D. Jones  is  a graduate of UVA’s Ph.D. program in English literature and language. He is currently an assistant professor of African American literature and Global Studies at Sarah Lawrence College.

A son of Guyana, South America, and a poet of Brooklyn, Jones wrote and self-published a collection of poetry titled Black Trinity (2002), which draws on “the lyricism of the Black Arts Movement and the creativity of contemporary slam poets,” creating “story bound poetry that is an examination of the presence of blackness in the contemporary moment.”

A freelance writer, Jones has written numerous articles on web and mobile technology, with a focus on technology’s impact on social justice and environmental concerns.

“Docta J” maintains a strong commitment to urban education. He remains especially committed to working with youth from his alma mater, Boys and Girls High School in Bedford Stuyvesant, one of the few remaining large Black and Latino (minority) urban high schools in New York City.
